When you are working on your local computer as an administrator and want to edit the computer registry keys. Normally you try to open windows registry using Run with command regedit, some time you will get message Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator. May be some one disabled this command on your computer or some virus that can cause this behavior.

There are two different methods to solve this problem.

To create this HTML list, first open Internet Explorer. Here go to File option then you will find here option Import and Export, to run the Import/Export wizard Click here then Next.

In Windows XP when I go into Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) there are a lot of programs running under "Processes" that I have never seen before and don't know what they are for. How can I find out what these "processes" are for and how to keep them from loading if I don't really need them?

A:
Think of those processes as the parts under the hood of your car. They help Windows run and you don't really think about them. Your clock synchronization, audio, imaging, printing, and other essential functions are all separate running processes.

If you really want to monkey around under there, then go to Start/Run and type “services.msc “(without the quotes). You'll find the name of each service, a description, and whether it starts automatically, when needed (manual), or is disabled. Most of the descriptions tell you what will happen if you disable a process.

The only ones that you really need to concern yourself with are the automatic ones since these start at boot up. Click the header for "Startup Type" and all the automatic processes will be grouped together. Now you can go down the list and read what each one does and the consequences of disabling. If you see one you don't want/need then double click. The resulting window will again give you the name and description of the process. You can also change the startup type here from automatic to manual.

Most processes have a function and if you disable one that you need you can run into problems. If you have anti-virus and spyware scanning software then you shouldn't get any alien processes lurking about to worry you.

Now, close the hood and get back to driving the information super highway.

You can save your computer maintenance cost if you clean your computer on the regular basis. This will improve the cooling and performance of the computer components. Your computer components could damage, if you do not keep it clean on periodically basis, because dust is the main cause to heat up your system and heat link to hardware failure.

If you are using Windows Task Manager to display the information about programs and processes that are running on your computer. You can start your Windows Task Manager with pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys or with pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys.

To keep Task Manager hidden when it is minimized.

• First open it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys then go to Options menu and click on Hide When Minimized.

• You can easily restore it, if you click on the icon of Task Manager that will appear in taskbar near the time display.

• In regedit editor you will open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder, In this folder open the CLSID folder then open the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} folder >ShellFolder folder at last.
• Here simply change the data value from "40 01 00 20" to "70 01 00 20".

After performing all above steps restart your computer then you will find option to rename Recycle name after right clicking on Recycle Bin Icon. Now you can change new name as you wish.

If you want to change the "desktop wallpaper" you can go to Tools -> Settings -> Phone -> Standby Mode -> Background Image -> Click on "Yes" and then select the image you want to put as background.

If you want to put an image instead of the operator name (in the right corner, between the clock and the battery meter) you need a more complicated "trick":

- download and install eFileManager or SeleQ

- now go and create some folders in the phone under C:\system\Apps ... create the folder Phone, and under this one create the folder Oplogo

you should have this folder created:

C:\system\Apps\Phone\Oplogo

- now you can put inside this folder (with eFileManger or SeleQ) the pictures you want to use as "operator logos"

- Click on image you want in Oplogo folder and scroll down to

- Click on SET AS OPERATOR LOGO

- Phone will reboot and new logo will be up

- Job done

If you followed my previous article on removing MSN messenger, you may want to take it a step further. Whether it’s a hard drive space issue, or to tidy up your installed programs. There are some quick tips to reduce operating system clutter.

As mentioned earlier, MSN messenger is installed by default, along with MSN explorer and Outlook Express. If you have Microsoft Office 2000 or newer installed, you may already be using Microsoft Outlook which is the email program that replaces Outlook express. If you are using Eudora or thunderbird for email, then you don’t need outlook express at all. To remove it, open control panel, then open add remove programs and click the add remove windows components button on the left hand side. Scroll down the list until you see Outlook Express, then remove the check mark. Click ok and wait to be prompted – you may require your original Windows XP CD, or to know the location of its source files on your hard drive (typically in the C:\i386 folder)

In addition to Outlook express, you may also remove MSN Explorer which is a combination of a utilities including a web browser, email, chat, shopping and media center. This is the type of software you may have received if you purchased an ISP monthly subscription with the Microsoft Network. It serves no real purpose for the average Windows XP system. If you have purchased a MSN subscription, then leave it as it is. To remove it MSN Explorer - once again, go to the add remove programs icon in control panel, add remove windows components. Look for MSN messenger and remove the check mark.

Desktop screen savers, mouse pointers, sounds schemes and wallpaper are also good sources of clutter. These can all be removed by following the same steps as above.

MSN messenger by default is installed with Windows XP. It is also set to load in your system tray when windows boots. Look at the bottom right of your computer screen, near clock - for the little blue person.

To remove if from your computer, open control panel, add remove programs, then add remove windows components. The very last item is MSN messenger. Remove the check mark and click ok. You may need your Windows XP cd rom to locate the source files. It’s an annoyance – to require a cd when removing software, however it may be that Windows XP requires other files as necessary replacements for files you are uninstalling.

To disable messenger from automatically starting with windows, double click on it to open it. You can also locate it down by the clock, on the right bottom corner. It’s the little blue person. If you have never set it up before, you may be prompted to setup and use Windows Passport. Click Cancel to bypass this step. Once messenger is open, click on tools, then options. There are two check marks that should be removed. First, remove the check mark that allows messenger to run with windows; and second – remove the check mark - to automatically run Messenger when connected to the internet.

This will stop messenger from loading with windows, and from running down in the system tray, by the clock. If you removed it from your add remove programs list, then consider it gone from your computer. If you ever need it reinstalled, simply go back to control panel, add remove programs, windows accessories, and put the check mark back.

Remote desktop allows you to have your exact desktop from your main computer and access it through the internet as if you were actually on that pc. You are on that pc in fact, just sharing the screen. Now with AJAX,– a new javascript and XML programming language for the internet, new doors are opening to accomplish old tasks in new ways.

Desktop portals that do not require your home pc, or work pc to be involved. These new portals can be accessed anywhere using the internet. If you are at the library, school, the airport, simply login to your desktop portal and you have everything you need.

Some of the leading companies offering internet desktop applications include ORCA although they are still in beta testing. This offers a complete Windows XP, Vista, and MAC interface all done through your web browser. You can browse the internet from your internet desktop even! Dekoh is another desktop portal that has recently launched.
