| Remove Network Neighborhood Icon |
| Friday, May 4, 2007 |
If you haven’t got a network then you don’t need a Network Neighborhood Icon.
But you’ve already tried to delete it and found that you can’t - that’s why you are reading this.
(This tip only applies to Windows 98 - Windows XP has a My Network Places icon which can be deleted in the usual way.)
You need to add a Registry key. You can do it by editing the Registry, but that can be catastrophic if you make a mistake, so the safest way is as follows:
If you are using Internet Explorer in Windows 98, REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoNetHood"=dword:00000001 Type this matter in notepad and save as NoNetHood.reg. (Windows may warn you that the file could harm your computer - ignore that and left click the Run button.)
(If you are using Firefox in Windows 98 then left clicking on the HERE link above will not download the file, but will open the file for you to read. Just left click through: File, Save Page As..., and Save. Remember where you saved the file, go to it and double left click on it.)
Windows will ask if you are sure that you want to add the information to the registry. Left click the Yes button.
Windows will tell you that the information has been successfully entered into the registry. Left click the OK button.
When you restart the computer the Network Neighborhood Icon should have goneLabels: PC Tips N Tricks and Tweaks |
